The Story Behind Green Your Spirit

Hi, I’m Mikaële… but you can call me Mikki.

Green Your Spirit grew out of my own path of healing.

In 1998, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I was 27 years old at the time, and it blew my mind and soul wide open in many unexpected ways. I was devastated by what I witnessed during her cancer journey.  She died just one short year later, and it felt as if a part of me died too.  Little did I know, this would be the beginning of my new life.

I started questioning how I was living, what really mattered to me, and what I wanted to do with this one precious life.

Over the next several years, I traveled the world extensively, learning from Indigenous cultures, spiritual teachers, and healers while finding my own way through grief and awakening in the process.

After years of healing — and helping others along the way — I felt much more connected and alive, but there was still a missing piece. I wanted to feel better in my body and experience vibrant health in a more sustainable way. At the time, I was relying too much on caffeine for energy and wanted a healthier relationship with food, along with better digestion.

How Green Your Spirit Began

In 2009, that search led me to Hippocrates Wellness, where I became a Certified Holistic Health Educator. Not only did I witness profound changes in guests who were there to address serious health issues, I also left Hippocrates feeling better than I ever had before — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

When I came home to the Bay Area, I immediately began putting what I’d learned into practice. I started making sprouted juices and nutrient-dense raw foods, growing sprouts and wheatgrass at home, and learning more about superfoods and herbs. I felt incredible, and soon began offering classes on cleansing and superfoods, hosting plant-based meetups, and guiding people through 5-day cleanses.

Eventually, people started asking if I would make the juices and cleanses for them, too. That really wasn’t the plan — but this is where Green Your Spirit started to take on a life of its own.

What Green Your Spirit Means

Green Your Spirit is about feeling more alive and more like yourself.

Sometimes that starts with food or a cleanse. Sometimes it’s realizing something in your life needs to shift, getting outside more, slowing down, clearing some space, or simply paying attention to what actually makes you feel good now.

And yes, it’s supposed to be fun.

I’ve never believed wellness has to mean doing everything perfectly or taking yourself so seriously. For me, it’s about making choices that help you feel more alive in your life and having the energy and space to really enjoy it.

That’s really the heart of Green Your Spirit.

Green Your Spirit Today

More than 15 years later, my understanding of wellness has evolved, while the heart of Green Your Spirit has stayed the same.

Different ages, bodies, lifestyles, and seasons of life can call for very different ways of nourishing ourselves. Over the years, I’ve worked with athletes, busy moms and executives, teenagers, people going through cancer treatment, and people recovering from surgery. And I’ve had to learn what works for my own body as it’s changed through menopause and different stages of life.

What has stayed constant is how much I believe in fresh, organic, whole plant-based foods and superfoods, and the difference they can make in how we feel. Green juices, energizing detox elixirs, protein smoothies, mineral-rich soups, and cleanses are still a big part of that for me. They’re an easy way to get a lot of nourishment in, especially when you want something simple and gentle or need a reset.

I don’t think everyone needs to eat exactly the same way… at the same time, I do think most of us can benefit from bringing more of these kinds of foods into our lives and paying attention to how our bodies respond. Our drinks make that easy, delicious, and doable in everyday life.

After all these years, working with people through Green Your Spirit is still so deeply fulfilling. My husband Cole and I love supporting the community together. Some of our clients have been part of GYS for over a decade, and others have become close friends along the way. We feel incredibly grateful for the community that has blossomed around what we do.
